Benefits of the DESA

The DESA® and its auxiliary components of Evoked Potentials differ in three significant ways from an ordinary EEG. The technology behind the DESA® is state-of-the-art, FDA-approved medical electronics.

Firstly, the DESA® gathers signals from thirty-two channels as opposed to the eight or sixteen channels of other EEG instrumentation. This produces clearer clinically relevant information. Spike detection, the ability to detect abnormal neuroelectrical discharges, increases by sixty percent. The DESA® can “see” things other systems cannot. Also, the thirty-two channel efficiency enhances the data gathered from the Evoked Potentials in the same fashion.

Secondly, the utilization of the Visual Evoked Responses/Potentials and the Auditory Evoked Responses/Potentials, including the FMAER and P300 studies, help to gather precise information with which to design a course of treatment including medication intervention, when deemed necessary. This obtains a clearer clinical picture of the brain’s functioning.

Thirdly, and perhaps most significantly, we compare all results to a normative database of patients developed and established at Harvard’s prestigious Boston Children’s Hospital. The advanced technology of the DESA® allows on-screen comparisons and quantifiable, objectified data with which to assess, diagnose, and treat patients with greater effectiveness and efficiency than any other system. This tool gives the clinician information into the workings of the brain that has never before been available. Depending on what is found, the information can then be utilized by neurologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, family practitioners, psychologists, psychotherapists, speech and language pathologists, educational therapists, occupational therapists, and other disciplines to more effectively treat patients.
